Reflection of the Month

My Jesus
It is Christmas time!! Aren’t you glad you have reach that time of the year which means you have a break from school at least for a few weeks?  You probably can not wait for that precious time to go home and rest.  But really, is that all this time means to you?  Or is it time to receive gifts and eat until you get indigestion?  Are we more focus on the free time or on the reason we have that free time?

People here in Puerto Rico seem to have it all figured it out.  Everyone knows who Jesus is and why he became a little baby born in a manger.  It sounds great, right?  Well, not quite.  While they can tell the story with all the details, much of the emphasis during this season is given to when is the next party, what should I wear, what is my latest toy/gadget. They seem to tell the story as if it has no relevance today.  To make things more interesting, people praise this child and said we should be like him.  Umm… Can we be like Jesus?

I want to be like my Jesus
But I’m not sure what that means
To be like you Jesus
You said to live like you
To love like you…
But then you died for me
Can I be like you Jesus? (Todd Agnew, My Jesus)

I find these verses very appropriate to meditate on during this Christmas season.  You see, we talk about being like Jesus sometimes without knowing what that means.  It is easy to say I live like he did, even though we know we fall short each step of the way.  It is easy to say I’ll love like he did, especially if it is or family/significant other/friends, but what about the homeless on our way to the subway.

Now the hardest part, He died for us.  It wouldn’t be fair to ask you to die for someone else and save the world, when we can’t even die for our self.   But there is something we can do… yes, we can die to our own will, selfishness, greed, and let Christ life abounds on our heart.  Isn’t that what He really wants from us?  It sounds very simple and yet, so hard to do at the same time.  Let that be our goal this coming year, let Christ come in to our heart and do a New Year heart/house cleaning.  Now sing Little by little He is Changing ME J
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” Galatians 2:20

May a double portion of God blessing be pour upon you this coming year!
Merry Christmas!!

In Christ with love,
Javier and Jady
